Summary
We are seeking a Financial Services Specialist to join our team in Bethlehem, PA. This role provides administrative and financial support to the Bureau of Financial Services. Key responsibilities include reviewing cashier transactions, preparing and reconciling daily deposits, and updating financial records. The role assists with researching and resolving tax account discrepancies, processing credits and refunds, preparing tax certifications, and compiling documentation for payments. The Specialist also supports capital asset research and helps ensure accuracy and efficiency in day-to-day financial processes.
Responsibilities
Review cashier transactions and prepare daily bank deposits, including entering collected checks and reconciling receipt collections.
Perform data updates for tax, utility, and miscellaneous accounts.
Prepare tax certifications independently for property sales or refinancing; implement process changes as directed.
Research and resolve tax account credits, overpayments, and other discrepancies.
Compile documentation for the Accounts Payable Manager to process tax credits or refunds.
Assist with capital asse research and related projects.
Consult with the Financial Services Director on unusual or complex issues as needed.
Reconcile daily eGov online utility payment reports.
Respond to inquiries regarding tax certifications by phone or email.
Process manual check requests, ensuring proper documentation.
Post cleared checks to appropriate accounts.
Review, code, and enter monthly magistrate reports, allocating revenue to the Bethlehem Parking Authority, City of Bethlehem (health inspections), and other entities.
Assist with distributing approved Accounts Payable checks.
Open and distribute incoming interoffice mail.
Provide backup support to the head cashier during absences or peak workload periods.
Prepare and process all tax refunds, ensuring proper documentation for Accounts Payable.
Perform general clerical duties, including copying, faxing, and mailing.
Qualifications
Associate's degree in accounting or business required, Bachelor's degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Strong time management skills and accuracy in data entry.
Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accuracy under deadlines.
Commitment to improving processes and systems for long-term efficiency.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Capable of multitasking and working independently or as part of a team.
Knowledge of accounting principles.
