Summary

We are seeking a Practice Manager for our Energy & Economic Development Practice Department to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the group, as well as the development and implementation of the group's strategic and business development initiatives, in collaboration with practice group and firm leadership. This role is a key part of the firm's business services function and will join a growing team collectively responsible for supporting practice and sector leaders in the management of their groups, including:

1. Serving as information conduits to support cross-department and cross-office initiatives and projects;

2. Strategic planning, reporting, budgeting and meeting management;

3. Talent management;

4. Supporting the group's business development goals.

This is a hybrid position to be based in Indianapolis, IN; Louisville, KY; Lexington, KY; or Portland, ME.

Communication, independent initiative and emotional intelligence are important skills needed in this role along with an understanding of the life cycle of an Energy or Economic Development matter and the business of law. This role will report to the Firm's Director of Clients, Markets and Communications, and will take daily direction from the Energy and Economic Development practice group leader, and designated partners.

Responsibilities
Work with firm leadership and practice group leadership to develop strategic business goals, objectives, and tactics in alignment with firm strategy.
Develop agendas and drive follow-up for regular partner and group meetings.
Work collaboratively with peers across the firm's business support departments to manage initiatives and support business strategies as determined by practice groups.
Become an expert on the practice, clientele, sources of business and related resources (e.g., trade and industry organizations, publications, related professionals) for the Energy and Economic Development group.
Develop and manage group budgets.
Seek opportunities to leverage practice group or team successes to other firm practice groups, offices or teams. Identify opportunities to cross sell assigned practice group services across the firm.
Help lawyers identify appropriate staffing for pitches and new matters.
Partner with marketing operations and communications team members to support the group's business development and profile visibility efforts, including through external events and rankings and awards submissions.
Respond to Requests for Proposals and prepare pitches and proposals designed to obtain new business, including the development of content for RFPs/pitches and client presentations, as well as online and offline communications; ensure presentation of content is consistent with branding.
Work with marketing team members to develop client/prospect collateral and sales tools.
Identify opportunities for thought leadership and work with the communications team members to proactively generate opportunities.
Orient laterals, including working with them to develop and implement BD plans that take the global platform, synergies and cross-selling opportunities into consideration.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree required.
Energy industry experience required.
Five years of experience in professional services or related field, with strong preference for law firm experience.
Strong project management skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and strong communication skills.
The ideal candidate will be a team-player and highly responsive. This candidate should have the demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage multiple assignments, deal with ambiguity, and function as part of a cohesive team.
Ability to anticipate needs and plan ahead.
Travel to offices in Louisville, KY and Indianapolis, IN.
