Job Summary:
The Shop Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized shop environment and assisting with the cleanup of steel pieces and parts. This role ensures that the shop is free of debris and hazards, contributing to a safe and efficient workspace. The Shop Assistant also supports the production team with basic tasks as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Shop Cleaning and Maintenance:
Sweep, mop, and clean floors to ensure a tidy shop environment.
Empty trash bins and dispose of waste materials appropriately.
Clean and maintain restrooms, break rooms, and other common areas.
Steel Piece and Part Cleanup:
Collect and dispose of scrap steel and other debris from work areas.
Sort and organize steel pieces and parts to keep workstations clear and efficient.
Assist in moving and storing steel materials as needed.
Equipment and Tool Maintenance:
Clean and maintain tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
Report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the Shop Supervisor.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Participate in safety training sessions as required.
Support for Production Team:
Assist production team members with basic tasks and manual labor as directed by the Shop Supervisor.
Transport materials and supplies to workstations as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned to support shop operations.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in a shop or industrial environment is preferred.
Basic understanding of shop safety practices and procedures.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting and moving heavy objects.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Standing, walking, bending, and moving around the shop for extended periods.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity for handling materials and cleaning tasks.
Evaluation Metrics:
Cleanliness and organization of the shop environment.
Adherence to safety protocols and use of PPE.
Timeliness and efficiency in completing assigned tasks.
Support provided to the production team and overall shop operations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
