In a world that likes to play by the rules, we like to dissect them and make them work for us and our $ moves. Because when you're building something big, you can't afford to play small.
As a Tax Attorney at Checkmate, you can expect to work closely with a growing team, as well as provide support to a variety of clients in other practice areas.
This is a role for an attorney who thrives on complex, high-stakes work and wants to be part of a firm that delivers excellence. You'll immediately step into meaningful, challenging cases and also play a role in our intake process - meeting with qualified prospective clients (often same-day) to evaluate their cases and set the strategy from day one.
You would be expected to advise on: structuring tax-advantaged deals; formation/operation/restructuring of entities like partnerships, S corps, and REITs; tax credit opportunities in a variety of sectors; buy-side and sell-side corporate, LLC and partnership acquisitions, dispositions, mergers, and restructurings; and other M&A activities like planning and research.
You would work on a team that delivers due diligence and tax structuring services, and would communicate directly with clients.
You would have the opportunity to participate in corporate matters from beginning to end, rather than only offering tax advice on an ad hoc basis.
We are seeking someone with a drive for this industry who is:
Passionate about our community and excited to work with Checkmate to engage with and build Checkmate's presence in our communities (e.g., speaking at events, building an online social presence, creating content such as tax tips and educational videos)
Excited to be showcased as a Service Expert in our communities.
Responsibilities:
Utilize technology and software solutions to maximize efficiency in tax processes and resource allocation.
Review deliverables prepared by external tax advisors to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Prepare and analyze monthly tax projections to align with organizational forecasts and planning scenarios.
Calculate and review U.S. domestic income tax provisions, adhering to ASC 740 tax accounting standards.
Oversee the preparation and review of Accounting for Uncertain Tax Positions, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
Develop tax budgets and forecasts to support long-term financial planning.
Coordinate communications with taxing authorities and auditors, addressing queries and resolving issues.
Conduct tax research and present well-supported conclusions for implementation.
Proven experience in corporate tax compliance and reporting.
Strong knowledge of ASC 740 tax accounting standards and global tax provisions.
Ability to manage and analyze tax forecasting and cash flow projections.
Proficiency in utilizing tax software and technology solutions.
Experience in preparing and reviewing Accounting for Uncertain Tax Positions.
Excellent organizational skills to oversee workflows and deadlines.
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with external advisors, auditors, and taxing authorities.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; advanced degree or CPA preferred.
Applicants should have significant federal tax experience in at least one of the previously mentioned areas. FL Bar admission is required.
We are a full-service firm, proud of our deeply personalized approach that puts our clients first. We would love to tell you more about our unique culture and engaging work.
We value honesty, compassion, and excellence - and we want someone who's in it for the long haul.
