Position Description:
The Cabbage Patch provides after school tutoring as well as interactive, enriching academic programs for children of ages 8-18 years old. The Education Specialist supports the development and implementation of academic enrichment programs for youth and families at The Cabbage Patch. This role serves as an educational advocate, mentor, and facilitator-helping young people strengthen essential academic skills and pursue post-secondary success.
This is a full-time position, working Monday - Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (40 hours per week)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Plan, develop, and lead academic and STREAM-based programming-including curriculum creation, reading and math support, field trips, college visits, and special projects-aligned with organizational goals.
Provide behavior guidance in accordance with The Patch's code and ensure a safe, inclusive environment; collaborate with Counseling staff on student support needs.
Supervise and support volunteers and interns; coordinate volunteer appreciation activities in partnership with other staff.
Maintain accurate records, track student progress, and support grant and scholarship efforts, including assisting youth in identifying college or scholarship opportunities.
Collaborate with program teams to integrate educational activities into broader organizational initiatives and participate in education team meetings to provide input on student progress and programming.
Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, adjusting achieve desired outcomes.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Commitment to the mission and values of The Cabbage Patch Settlement House.
Bachelor's degree in education, youth development, or related field OR at least 5 years of experience working with youth in educational, nonprofit, or community-based settings; master's degree preferred.
Strong understanding of youth development principles, educational best practices, and STREAM program delivery.
Proven ability to plan, implement, and evaluate effective programs that engage diverse youth populations.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, including active participation in team meetings and contributing to program planning.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant educational technology tools; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Valid driver's license with ability to drive a 15-passenger van and tow a cargo trailer; physical ability to lift up to 60 lbs. and actively participate in indoor/outdoor activities.
