PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Elementary Services Director, the STEM Coordinator leads the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of all STEM-related programs, experiences, and initiatives within Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley. Provides supervision and control over youth and supports YDPs in STEM curriculum implementation. Provides vision for the STEM programs for all age groups and is responsible for maintaining supplies and equipment inventory, and requests the purchases needed. STEM Coordinator seeks out additional opportunities for members to experience STEM through community partners, relationships, and donors.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

1. Collaborate with the Elementary Services Director to develop and implement the strategic vision for STEM programming.

2. Provide leadership, coordination, and oversight for STEM programs across multiple sites.

3. Support YDPs and volunteers to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of STEM activities.

4. Promote and model the Five Key Elements of Positive Youth Development.

5. Coach and mentor YDPs in their roles supporting STEM programs, conducting regular site visits.

6. Provide direct support in planning, implementing, and troubleshooting daily program operations.

7. Expand and grow STEM programming and youth participation (ADA) throughout the West Valley BGCWV sites.

8. Lead the planning and execution of project-based STEM curriculum at all sites and develop Club-wide end-of-semester program showcases.

9. Participate in required training, meetings, and lead STEM-related professional development workshops for staff.

Program Development and Implementation

1. Design and implement a comprehensive annual STEM program with clear goals and outcomes for K-5 grade levels. Last Updated 07/25/25 STEM Coordinator Page 15

2. Plan and execute engaging STEM activities during fall/spring semesters and at day camps for K-5th grade.

3. Ensure active Club participation in STEM contests and competitions.

4. Maintain clean, organized, and inspiring STEM spaces at each site.

5. Collaborate with community partners (e.g., Science Center, Discovery Cube) to enhance programming with field trips, guest sessions, and volunteer opportunities.

6. Use BGCA Continuous Quality Improvement tools to evaluate and refine programs.

7. Provide regular program reports and analyze performance metrics to support ongoing improvement.

Resource Management

1. Assist in managing program budgets; monitor expenditures against allocated funds.

2. Submit expenditure reports and collaborate with the Financial Coordinator as needed.

3. Ensure that all program sites are well-equipped, safe, and organized for daily operations.

4. Track inventory and maintain supply levels through timely procurement; submit timely purchase requests.

Partnership Development

1. Identify and establish new STEM enrichment partnerships to expand program reach and quality.

2. Coordinate with community partners for field trips, STEM guests, and collaborative projects.

3. Build relationships with parents, school staff, and local organizations to strengthen member engagement.

4. Collaborate with the Community Impact Coordinator & Philanthropy team to seek in-kind, pro-bono, and other leveraged resources, including volunteer support.

5. Participate in required evaluations from LAUSD's Beyond the Bell, ensuring timely submission of data and reports.

6. Support Club-wide initiatives, special events, and assigned projects as needed.

Marketing and Public Relations

1. Promote STEM programming internally and externally to increase visibility and engagement.

2. Provide monthly program highlights, pictures, video, etc., for Club marketing and communications platforms.

3. Gather feedback from youth, families, school staff, and partners to inform program improvements.

4. Support the engagement of donors, in partnership with the philanthropy team, interested in supporting the STEM initiatives as sponsors.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

May be required to drive a Club vehicle (depending on driving record and age).

May be required to work some weekends and evenings.

Participation in special programs and/or events as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, collaborative contact with Elementary Services Director and Site Coordinators to align goals, plan logistics, and support consistent program quality across sites.

External: Serves as liaison to school administrators, community partners, and board committee members to communicate successes, troubleshoot challenges, and cultivate long-term partnerships.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience in youth development, STEM, or related fields.

Minimum 2 years of experience in youth program delivery.

Demonstrated experience in planning and managing organized STEM programs.

Experience working with youth ages 5-12.

Familiarity with youth development principles and behavior management strategies.

Strong leadership, organizational, and team management skills aligned with Club values: Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, multi-site operations, and program logistics.

Skilled in supervising, evaluating, and mentoring staff to ensure quality program delivery.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to interact professionally with youth, staff, school administrators, parents, and community partners.

Ability to model respectful behavior, motivate youth, and effectively address behavioral challenges.

Proficient in using computers and technology for attendance tracking, reporting, and communication.

Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

A current negative TB test is required.

Reliable transportation-If driving a personal vehicle, must meet organizational insurance requirements.

Familiarity with BGCA curriculum is preferred.

DISCLAIMER:

This position requires the ability to engage in physical activities such as walking, stretching, bending, reaching, sitting, and positioning. Duties may also involve moving across various surfaces and ascending or descending stairs as needed. Work settings vary and may include both indoor and outdoor environments, depending on program activities. Interactions with youth and adults may take place in moderate to high noise levels. Physical exertion is occasionally required to transport supplies and equipment, and the ability to lift boxes up to 50 lbs is necessary. Staff will be provided with a laptop, cellphone, and a designated workspace at the Gary M. Thomas Clubhouse.
